Extendable cable measurement systems

The Enco-meters allow the rotary sensor devices (encoders, potentiometers, ...) to be adapted simply, quickly and economically, to the measuring of linear distances of up to 8 metres in machines with slow displacement, without brusque acceleration and with an average number of manoeuvres.
They consist of a micro cable of stainless steel that should be joined to the mobile element of the machine at its free end. On the inside of the apparatus, the other end of the cable is rolled into a precision drum whilst a beam spring keeps it in permanent tension. The drum shaft can activate a rotary sensor of any kind.

Outlet devices
To order, we can provide the Enco-meter already connected to an electronic outlet device, which can be an incremental, absolute or a potentiometer encoder,
If you use an absolute or an incremental encoder, if you require a certain resolution r (mm per impulse), the number of impulses of the encoder (n) will be:

D
n =

(D is the development of the Enco-meter in mm. )
r

Using the potentiometer, we obtain a relation of output r (in per mm) according to which:

R
r =

(R is the nominal resistance and n is the maximum number of turns. )
Dxn

As standard, we have available in stock, potentiometers of R=10K and n=10 turns. It should be taken into consideration, that the mechanical route of the potentiometer can limit the range of measurement of the ENCO-METER.

Installation
The ENCO-METER fixed to a flat surface of the machine by means of 3 or 4 M4 screws. Any assembly position is possible. The cable must be correctly lined up ( < 2º) and under no circumstances should it be greater than the range of measurements.
