Separator plates for fuel cells

Fuel cells can be used in various mobile and stationary applications for power generation and production of heat at low emission levels. Separator plates, gas diffusion layers (GDL) and the proton exchange membrane (PEM) are key components for PEM Fuel Cells (PEMFC), which are initially intended to find application in residential, portable and other systems.

Based on expanded natural graphite we manufacture ultralight and thin Separator Plates, which can be impregnated and/or punched on demand. This material is distributed along with our materials and Porous Graphite Plates (PGP) via our Fuel Cell Components business.

Electrodes for redox-flow batteries

Electricity is stored electrochemically in redox batteries. They are particularly suitable for off-grid energy supply systems used in areas, which are not connected to the utility.

Owing to their good electrical conductivity and chemical resistance, separator plates made from expanded graphite are used as electrode material for the following applications:

  • Temporary storage systems to compensate for peak energy demands
  • Mobile radio installations and other IT facilities
  • Emergency power supply units and backup systems
